Stapf Construction Since 1962

In 1962 Fred and Violet Stapf started Stapf Construction in Port Townsend. Fred had grown up working on farms, had a job at a rock quarry and worked many years at the Port Townsend Mill. The idea was that working people would build good houses for working people in and around Port Townsend. Fred was the builder but Violet played an important role as the business began to succeed. She drew the designs of many of the early houses and painted, stained, and helped get many houses finished and delivered to the owners. Just a few of the houses that Fred and Violet designed and built or remodeled are shown here.

During the early years Fred and Violet did a number of custom homes for local individuals and they also built a few homes as presales which were bought upon completion.

Richard Stapf, Sr worked for his dad from the beginning. He was married to Connie from 1965 to 1978 and they had Rich, Jr who was often seen on the job sites as the business continued to flourish. In 1977 Richard, Sr took over the business. For years Stapf Construction built 4-5 houses a year, mostly in Jefferson County though occasionally in Kitsap County and Sequim. Local people and some of the newcomers who were finding Port Townsend and Jefferson County to be a great place to live were glad to have a builder who they could rely on to stand behind his product. Richard Sr retired in 2008 and passed Stapf Construction on to Rich Stapf, Jr.

Boulton Home

“At least one project stretches across the generations. In 1965 John Boulton contracted with Fred to build his home in Quilcene. In 2009 the home burned and he came to Rich, Jr to have the home rebuilt. The project was completed in 2011.”

“Richard Stapf, Sr. was responsible for building this multi family project. It is still in the family.”

Rich Stapf, Jr has operated the business as sole owner since 2008 and has continued to build 4-5 houses each year in Jefferson County. Some have been custom homes in which close contact with the owner was an essential, and successful, part of the process. Rich has also built a number of presale homes where buyers have purchased the home after Rich started construction. Another interesting type of construction Rich has done are Outbuildings. Sometimes garages or shops, sometimes ADUs, these outbuildings offer property owners another way to take advantage of their property and infrastructure.

Today Rich Stapf works successfully in a building industry that is faced with many challenges. He has a full crew of skilled workers and is always on the job himself. Rich knows that being on time and on budget is critical and he has many loyal customers who have experienced that dependability. Rich is glad to share the list of all of his prior clients with any prospective buyer. In a small community like this your reputation is built one house at a time.

Since 1962 Stapf Construction has built homes and a reputation for quality and reliability. Take advantage of his experience and contact Rich Stapf to talk about how you get the home you want built for you today.
